History

The engine was purchased new in 1906 by the owner of a wood sawing mill in Alt Kalkar (Germany) and has been in operation till 1960. It has been used for powering a 16 blade vertical and 1 blade horizontal sawing engines.

In 1930 the original papers (including boilerbook) were lost. New papers were made but these were lost again somewhere between 1980-1990.
The wood sawing mill burned down in 1944 as result of the war and was rebuilt after the war.
The wheels originally supplied with the steamengine were removed and used for a simple transport carriage to transport trees from the river Rhine to the mill.
Wheels and carriage have laid long in the woods. They rusted away and don’t exist any longer.
To make the steamengine mobile again, were mounted car wheels at its frame. After 1960 the idle engine remained in the sawing mill.

After closure in 1983 the engine was purchased by an steamenthousiast in IJsselstein, Limburg, the Netherlands. The sawing engines went to somebody in Westphalia Germany

The engine changed several times from ownership: via Silvoorde it went to Belgium where the present owner lives.
The present owner has renewed the firetubes and boiler. He has visited the original sawmill just before it was demolished completely in 1999.
He has rescued the old blade from the vertical sawing engine and a 100 kg heavy punching unit for sawtoothes.

On the photographs you can see what was left of the mill before demolishing. The location of the steamengine can still be seen and some of the driving wheels in the works.

Because the owner is busy with another restoration project the work at the Wolf engine is on hold.

Consideration is given to sale of the Wolf engine
He is still looking for the original boilerbooks which disappeared between 1980 and 1990. If you have any information, please contact the webmaster!
